Laura Pronk and The Bloom Room: Where Floral Dreams Take Root

Sprouted from an absolute love affair with flowers, the shop has transformed into a thriving business capturing Marrakech’s nature allure. As soon as you enter the shop or come across its stunning online portfolio, you’ll commence on a dreamy domain where blossoms rule and reign supreme.

ts owner, Laura, has called Marrakech home for over 10 years. Her connection to the botanical world runs deep, as she originated from the Netherlands – the world’s largest and leading exporter of flowers, acclaimed for its vibrant flower markets. Even her radiant, fresh-as-a-disy glow, strawberry blonde hair, and Dutch style mirror the vibrancy of her naturalistic botanical passion.

I like to think of myself as a blend of Moroccan and Dutch culture, having found my peace, my friends, and my family in this city I call home,” she said.

Laura decided it was time to turn her passion for flowers into a profession when she lost her job as an event manager around the pandemic.

“I had lingered with the idea to learn floristry for a long time, and I was just so drawn to it that I just started creating dried flower arrangements and putting them out there on Instagram.

The stars had aligned for her perfectly, creating an opportune moment when the hunger for exquisite home adornments coincided with the fervent desire to support local artistry. Delivering bouquets, she discovered her arrangments extending beyond aesthetics, wielding the potential to transform one’s disposition and spirit.

“Through the network of friends and colleagues, the word spread and people liked the bouquets I made, so I started to sell them and deliver them all over Marrakech and even beyond,” she mentioned and from that point forward, demand for fresh floral creations surged, prompting her to venture into her dream of owning a flower shop.

I was never educated as a florist or in business, or marketing (I studied European Medieval History and Arabic), but I think you can do anything really as long as you feel naturally drawn to it. Call it destiny or manifestation, but I like to call it ‘doing what you love to do’ and as long as you are doing that, you will never get bored.

With flower-filled dreams flourishing, the mother of two searched for spaces, inked the deal, and secured the keys just days after welcoming her newborn into the world. With her son, a mere 6 weeks old, she fearlessly unveiled the doors of her shop to the world…

Fast-forward a few seasons, and The Bloom Room has evolved into a sanctuary, opening its doors to anyone daring to immerse themselves into a world of petals and possibilities.

A Bloom Room singular creation is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of color and texture, seamlessly blending and merging homegrown blooms with exotic imports that breathe life into a setting.

I think the color combinations I make and the kind of arrangements that I create have a European touch, and I love to include both Dutch as well as Moroccan-grown flowers in my arrangements. Having flowers be a part of your home interior, as we Dutch people are used to, gives you the feeling they are in fact undeniably important in ‘giving life to a space’, so valuable to what makes a home a home.

This unique blend results in arrangements that are a visual feast for the senses. She also draws inspiration from the seasons and the rich tapestry of Moroccan flora, masterminding designs that truly bring an event unparalleled vitality. Not just fine-tuning a floral vision but elevating it.

I love working with the seasonality of Moroccan flowers, giving them a short time to shine in my arrangements, but making them all the more special and unique. Most flowers are available for about a month before they go out of season again and we have to wait until next year to have them in the shop” she said.

It’s a reminder of nature’s fragility and power, showcasing the inherent beauty of the impermanent.

Laura, now captains a dedicated team of artists committed to bringing your most untamed fantasies to life, catering to every client’s unique style and occasion with her careful selection of fresh diverse flowers. Effortlessly combining soft and gentle shapes with unexpected organic forms to create arrangements that are personal, playful, and filled with intricate details.

Her ability to tailor each creation to her client’s unique story, preferences, and needs is remarkable. No two arrangements or wedding backdrops are alike and trust is paramount.

I love it when a client gives me free-range, I think most florists do. When a client trusts your vision and that you will make it beautiful, that is the best compliment. I also think that you have to treat your client the way you want to be treated, so give them that extra bit of flowers or extra push of energy, they will really appreciate it.

Laura is a testament to the power of passion and the pursuit of beauty in its purest form…nature.

She plans to expand The Bloom Room into a larger space, integrating a flower atelier for weddings alongside the flower and home decor shop where she can share her passion for botanical artistry through workshops and make them accessible to more people.

I hope more and more people will get the value of having flowers at home or as a gift, and it will become a very accessible commodity.

Her upcoming Floral Masterclass, in the works, promises a memorable experience. Set for Friday, October 27th at Bloom House, this intimate gathering will allow eager participants to create their own stunning flower arrangements while savoring delectable treats prepared by Bloom House, a holistic house with a plant-based kitchen.

There will be a wrapping station and you can take home your own handmade bouquet of fresh blooms when the evening ends. I think it will be a super fun experience for all!” she excitedly declared.

We will also be starting a new concept of The Bloom Room Shop-in-Shop” she disclosed as The Bloom Room is now in the process of establishing an extensive network of sales outlets across Morocco, offering a diverse selection of seasonal flower arrangements in various cities. This strategic initiative is currently under active development in collaboration with a consortium of esteemed partners.

Laura’s vision for The Bloom Room is boundless, pushing the petals to the metal and gilding the lily, as she orchestrates a floral revolution in Marrakech, infusing it with Dutch dynamism.

The future of this bloemenwinkel (and that’s Dutch for flower shop) unfurls its thorny delights whether you’re itching to paint the town red with a burst of color, bedeck your event with floral enchantment, or just plunge into the spellbinding world of flowers, Laura Pronk and The Bloom Room are poised to sprinkle your flowered fantasies with a dash of edge and a whole lot of magic.
